List of Food for the Genius Brain
Each person is blessed with it to shuttle information back and forward, most astonishingly complex, beautiful thing in existence, not much bigger than the heart of lettuce, Yes, it’s your personal computer: Brain.
A mouse has 5 million brain cells. A monkey has 10 billion whereas you are born with 100 billion active neurons. Those connections are the key to brain-power. If you get to know how the brain works is a fantastic tool to help your child or help yourself discover your potent talent. Even the eye like our brain contains 130 million light receivers which can take in trillions of photons per second.
The way we use our eyes when we see nature or mountain and in a second are able to take it in, in its entirety, similarly, a single page in an ordinary book is nothing for the eye-brain combination. It is just that we haven’t been taught to use the same visual skills for reading.
What does a Genius brain like to eat?
Like any other machinery, the brain also needs energy. For example, your mobile works well when charged fully, a car requires engine oil for avoiding sludge, cleaner engines for better performance, similarly the brain too gets energy from the food we eat. Just 2 percent of your total weight makes up your brain if you are an adult. But it uses about 20 percent of the energy you develop. Feed your personal computer high-energy diet and it will work smoothly, efficiently. On the other hand, feed it a low-energy diet, and it won’t perform well.
There are three things that your brain requires. It needs plenty of glucose for energy. Fruits and vegetables are therefore essential for brain energy. That’s why you are advised to eat a lot of seasonal fruits. If it could be tested, your brain could generate electricity to light a 25 watts bulb. So, to light that bulb inside, you need to produce electricity so that your brain could transmit messages- around its billions of cells and to the rest of the body.
So, what is the source of that brain-electricity: good food combined with oxygen. It is quite obvious that you get oxygen from breathing. That’s why deep breathing is highly recommended before and during the study: to oxygenate your blood. It enriches your blood with oxygen. That’s why exercise is not only good for your body, it’s good for your brain. Yoga is a science that has the ability to sharpen your brain, Bee breathing (Bhramari Pranayama) improves concentration and memory, Paschimottanasana (seated forward bend) relaxes the mind by removing anger and irritability, Setu Badhanasana ( Bridge Pose) relaxes the tight muscles and improves circulation of blood to the brain, Sarvangasana (Shoulder stand) nourishes the brain as more blood reaches the pineal and hypothalamus glands, it improves all cognitive functions, and Halasana ( Plow pose) helps improve blood flow to the brain and calm the nervous system.
Cut off the supply of oxygen, your brain will be damaged. And stop the supply of oxygen completely, and you die. Your brain needs the right type of energy to produce those chemical flows- called neurotransmitters (neuro means mind and transmit means send.) and these in turn depend on a balanced diet.
Food that includes plenty of protein. Lack of Polyunsaturated fat results in loss incoordination, confusion, memory loss, paranoia, apathy, tremors, and hallucinations. Where do we get these Polyunsaturated fats from? It is mostly found in plant-based oils, seeds, and nuts. The two major classes of polyunsaturated fats are Omega 3 and Omega6 fatty acids.
Source of Omega 3 fatty acids: walnuts, pine nuts, flax seeds, sunflower seeds.

Deficiency in nutrients can reduce the level of certain neurotransmitters so adversely that it might affect the types of behavior. Besides, the brain also needs a constant supply of other nutrients. Sodium is vital for transmitting all your brain’s messages. Sodium is found in most foods. Reduce your sodium intake and you weaken the brain receivers. Lack of potassium intake causes anorexia, nausea, vomiting, and drowsiness. Nearly, all fruits are rich in potassium especially bananas, oranges, apricots, avocados, melons, and peaches. So are potatoes, tomatoes, and pumpkins.
